FORMENTERA: THE PUREST SHADE OF BLUE
Formentera is a paradise of crystal-clear waters and dreamlike beaches. Its charm lies in its relaxed atmosphere and natural beauty, featuring dunes, cliffs, and pine forests. Unlike its lively neighbour, Ibiza, Formentera moves at a slow pace, making it the perfect refuge for those seeking peace and a deep connection with nature.
One of Formentera’s biggest draws is its coastline. Ses Illetes beach, often ranked among the world’s best, and Cala Saona, famous for its breathtaking sunsets, boast turquoise waters and fine sand that rival any Caribbean destination.
For water sports enthusiasts, Formentera offers fantastic opportunities for snorkelling, paddleboarding and kayaking. The island’s marine ecosystem is protected by the Posidonia oceanica, a seagrass that keeps its waters pristine. The seagrass meadows between Ibiza and Formentera are particularly well-preserved and were declared UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1999.

Formentera is home to six villages, with Sant Francesc as its capital. With about 3,000 inhabitants, Sant Francesc is the centre of life for the islanders. Here, you can find artisan markets, restaurants with local cuisine and a fortified church that reflects its history.
One of its major attractions is its lighthouses, where you can stand atop high cliffs and enjoy breathtaking views. The Cap de Barbaria lighthouse is one of the most famous, thanks to its appearances on the big screen. You should also not miss the La Mola Lighthouse, an iconic symbol of Formentera that offers a fantastic view from the highest point of the island. And make sure not to forget the La Savina Lighthouse, located near the port.

To get to Formentera from Ibiza, the only option is by sea, as the island has no airport. There are numerous ferries that connect the two destinations in a journey of approximately 30 minutes. Many visitors, especially during peak season, take day trips to the island.
And if you have the opportunity, visit the small island of Espalmador, just 50 metres from Playa de Ses Illetes. It is a protected island that is part of the Las Salinas Natural Park of Ibiza and Formentera. It is practically unspoiled, with only a few small buildings, including a lighthouse, a tiny chapel, and an 18th-century defence tower.
