THE LIGHTHOUSE ROUTE
The island of Ibiza has several lighthouses that guide ships and have become key landmarks. Some are no longer in operation, but each has its own history and preserves a special kind of magic.
The Botafoc Lighthouse, located at the entrance to the port of Ibiza, is one of the most recognisable on the island. Built in the 19th century, it is famous for its white cylindrical tower and its great importance for Mediterranean navigation. Its light, visible from a long distance, has guided ships approaching the port for decades, becoming a point of reference for maritime traffic.
At the northern tip of the island lies the Punta des Moscarter Lighthouse, the tallest in Ibiza and one of the tallest in the Balearic Islands. With its distinctive design of black and white helical stripes, this lighthouse has become a visual icon. It is located in a privileged natural setting near Portinatx.
Another notable lighthouse is the Es Vedrà Lighthouse, situated on an islet near the southwest coast. Although it cannot be visited and its tower is more discreet than others, its location facing the imposing Es Vedrà rock formation gives it a mystical aura. Its light signal is crucial for navigation in an area known for its cliffs and shifting winds.

The Punta Grossa Lighthouse, located on a rocky enclave on the northeast of the island, is one of the most unique due to its history. Abandoned for years and difficult to access, it preserves part of its original 19th-century structure. Although it no longer functions as a navigational signal, its silhouette and setting make it a gem of Ibiza’s coastal heritage.
On the northeast coast, you will also find the Tagomago Lighthouse, located on the small private islet of the same name. Still in operation, this lighthouse rises above a simple yet robust structure, fully adapted to the maritime conditions of the area. Its light plays a key role in navigation between Ibiza and Mallorca, especially on nights with low visibility.

Lastly, the En Pou Lighthouse is another beacon that forms part of the island’s maritime signal system. Although its design is more modest, its role within nautical orientation remains significant. Together with Ibiza’s other lighthouses, it helps create a network of maritime safety essential for the traffic surrounding the island.
These are six of the nine lighthouses that encircle Ibiza and offer an excellent way to explore the island and discover new landscapes.
