The Ses Salines Natural Park is one of the most valuable natural areas in the Balearic archipelago<\/strong>. Located between the islands of Ibiza and Formentera, it encompasses both terrestrial and marine zones. In total, it covers 2,838.44 hectares of land and more than 13,000 hectares of marine area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It stands out for its great biodiversity and ecological importance, and was declared a natural park in 2001<\/strong> with the aim of protecting its unique ecosystems and rich landscapes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the park’s most characteristic features is its salt flats, which have been exploited since ancient times for salt extraction.<\/strong> These salt flats not only have economic and historical value, but also create ideal habitats for numerous bird species. Among them, the flamingo stands out<\/strong>, finding in these shallow waters a perfect place to feed and rest during its migrations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The park’s marine environment is equally important, as it is home to extensive meadows of Posidonia oceanica seagrass<\/strong>. This marine plant is fundamental to the health of the Mediterranean ecosystem, as it oxygenates the water, is responsible for its clarity, protects beaches from wave erosion, and serves as a refuge for numerous marine species. Posidonia oceanica seagrass have been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO since 1999.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other animal species that can be found in this area include the Pitiusas lizard<\/strong>, endemic to these islands, which occurs in different subspecies on the islets. These lizards are characterized by their full range of colors, from brown to blue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to its natural value, the park also has significant cultural interest. Archaeological remains from different periods can be found throughout the area, including Phoenician and Roman vestiges<\/strong>. Today, the park is a popular destination for both tourists and residents. Its crystal-clear beaches<\/strong>, such as Ses Salines and Es Cavallet, combine natural beauty with a protected environment.
